<Michael McMullan’s result updated. Apologies – the “subtracting machine” was suffering in the cold :-)>
Tonight’s club 25 mile time trial was a fascinating one for the stats meisters among us!
First up there was the battle for the overall win, with three riders dipping under the 56 minute barrier. Fastest was Mark Kane (Northern) who just pipped Ian Inglis (Curran Racing), with Paul Crossen (Killinchy) third. A further five riders also beat the hour, with William Gill equalling his personal best on the Portaferry Road to take first Ards.
Second battle was for handicap points towards the 25 mile handicap trophy. With just two 25s on the club calendar, this trophy was settled tonight. Four Ards riders beat their personal best, and although Michael Price had the biggest improvement, it is Colin Wilson who takes the trophy once his 10 points from the Champion of Champions is added on.
And finally, there is the McFarlane Trophy, for the fastest rider on scratch across all club 10 and 25 mile time trials. William Gill and Barry Mitchell shared the lead before this evening, but William has now edged ahead with one 10 mile time trial remaining. See the second table below for the full standings in this competition.
Thanks as always to our marshals and time keepers. There was a lot of traffic out there tonight, and we couldn’t have run the race without your selfless support.
