Damp but fast at first 10 mile TT

It may have been damp and misty for this evening’s 10 mile time trial, but the wind dropped away and there were a sprinkling of personal bests on the Ballywalter/Ballyhalbert course (modified due to roadworks).

After his strong showing on the tandem with Barry Hayes in the first round of the Irish National Time Trial series on Sunday, it was Ian Inglis (Kinning Cycles CC) who took a clear win in 21:12, just over one minute ahead of Barry Mitchell (Ards CC). Third was Andrew Hedley (Ards CC) on 22:38, but he had the consolation of winning on handicap, improving by almost a minute and taking an early lead in the 10 mile handicap cup.

Thanks to the organisers for finding a fast alternative course at short notice, and to the time keepers and marshals for keeping everyone safe. It was definitely an evening for the high intensity lights.
