Members rise to challenges

In recent weeks we’ve suggested several things to try during lockdown, from Strava Art to mile eating. And you’ve definitely risen to the challenge. Here are a couple of updates.

Most impressive was Barry Mitchell’s “Lap of the loughs and an extra loop” last Saturday – an epic 202.7 miles. He will now be inducted into the Ards CC 200 club 🙂

And this got us thinking… with rumours that racing might restart in July, perhaps the club should think about running a 12 hour time trial, and see if mega mile munchers like Barry and Peter McLean could get close to the Northern Ireland record of 259miles 496 yards.

On a completely different subject, and with schools starting to finish for summer,  we thought now would be a good time to share the latest local Strava Art – a horse’s head based on a popular route around Scrabo. We particularly like the use of the red “end of route” circle as an eye, and the slightly enigmatic grin (which probably matches the rider’s face at that point on the route).

This rider also shared an earlier version – which looks like the result of a dubious genetic experiment involving a sheep and horse – and shows how an iterative approach is often needed to refine a picture.

If you have kids (or even if you don’t), why not get the maps out and see what you can find hidden in there!
