There was a record turnout of almost 70 for the club BBQ on Saturday, reflecting the growing and enthusiastic membership. In spite of an overcast afternoon, the kids had a great time out in the garden. We were also treated to some aerobatic flying by planes preparing for the Newcastle air show.
The top three teams in the quiz were all female, showing enormous skill, perseverance and resourcefulness convincing the male members of the club to reveal the cycling answers to them. In the final count, it was the schoolgirls Emma, Anna and Karma who showed greatest imagination and invention when listing “things growing in the garden that could be eaten” (18!) and took a narrow win from last year’s winner Granny Gill.
Highlight for many was the roller racing. First up were the kids, with Anna taking a clear victory from Ross and English visitor Karma.
In the adults section, Ricky Topping put on a showman performance of high speed pedalling to beat all comers.
As always, thanks to everyone who helped to make it such a great day, including –
- William Gill for supplying an assortment of soft drinks
- Janine, Katherine and Sally for doing all the cooking
- The McIlwraiths for bikes and the Murrays for chairs
- Everyone who brought deserts – they were fantastic!
