Conditions were excellent for this evening’s club road race over 4 laps of the popular Glastry circuit. The riders were split into three groups, with the 6 front markers getting a 5 minute start on the large middle group, and the four scratch riders a further 45 seconds back.

At the end of the first lap, the front markers still had a lead of just over 3 minutes, with scratch a further 25 seconds back. Next time round scratch had caught the middle markers and they were now 2 minutes behind the leaders. At the end of lap three, Neil McKenna (AHC Racing) had caught the front group of 6 and was 5 seconds clear of them. Kirk Sloan (North Down CC) and Kieran McKenna (Ards CC) were just behind, with the remainder of the field a further 15 seconds further back.

In a replay of last year, Neil continued to extend his lead over the final lap to take a well deserved win. Twenty five seconds later, Kieran pipped Kirk for second, with Alex Bell (North Down) leading in the bunch a couple of seconds later. Here’s the full result.

This race was the fourth round of the Ards CC/North Down CC Inter Club League. Jamie Clarke (North Down CC) has edged slightly further ahead, but there is still all to play for in the final two rounds – the rescheduled Ballygowan road race on 5th August and the Springwell Road Race on 13th August.
