Giro inspires big field of 42 at first club road race

Mark Kane (Dave Kane Northern) sprinted to victory in tonight’s first club road race at Carrowdore after some great handicapping saw all the riders come together late on the last lap.

David Fowler (earlier in his cycling career)

Second was David Hamilton of Curran Racing, and third was David Fowler (also Dave Kane Northern). David started out his cycling career with Ards CC back in the 1980s, and it was great to see him back in action this evening.

Clifford Blayney (NDCC), Mike Curran (Curran Racing) and Willy McMullan (Ards CC) rounded out the top six.

Willy takes an early lead in the club road race handicap trophy, but with another 4 races to go, and a rider’s best 4 results to count, there is everything still to play for.

Place Name 13/5 3/6 1/7 29/7 19/8 Total
1 Willy McMullan 10         10
2 Chris Lappin 7         7
3 Richard Topping 5         5
4 Graeme Brown 3         3
5 Geoff Brennan 2         2
6 Richard Hanna 1         1

Thanks as always to the time keepers and marshals. Ards CC riders are reminded that they are expected to marshal at one road race during the year.
