Glen takes lead in ICL

Tonight saw Ards CC hosting the fifth round of the Inter Club League – a road race at Carrowdore. The riders were split into three groups with the limit group of eight getting a 5 minute start on a strong looking middle group of 13, with a small scratch group of 4 a further 1:20 back.

After the first lap of 5, the limit group was down to 6 riders, but were working well and still had over 4 minutes on the second group. On the second lap the chasing groups upped the speed and by the end of the third lap scratch had caught the middle group and the gap to the front was down to just over a minute. With a lap to go, the front group was caught, and the racing started in earnest 🙂

As the riders rounded the final corner, Chris Richardson (Killinchy) was in the lead and took the win by a couple of seconds from Ian Inglis (Kinning Cycles). Ian just held off the charging bunch led in by Barry Greer (North Down CC). Here’s the full result.

In the race for Inter Club League points, Stuart Millar and Luke Joyce both missed tonight’s race, so it is Glen Curry (North Down CC) who takes over at the top. But with a rider’s best five results from six to count, there’s still everything to play for at the final round on 9th August. Here are the provisional standings after 5 rounds. Please flag any mistakes.

Thanks to all the marshals, lead motor bike, judges and time keepers who helped out at tonight’s race.
And an advance notice that the Champion of Champions 25mile time trial, currently scheduled for Sunday 13th August, is likely to move back a couple of weeks to the 27th August due to road works. More details to follow.

Finally a reminder that if you haven’t entered the race you should not be riding round with the riders who are racing – you are not insured and you are putting the other riders and the organisers at risk. Thanks.
