Busy night on the Portaferry Road

Tonight’s second time trial in our delayed programme this year was a 10k straight in time trial on the Portaferry. It was encouraging to see 23 riders take part, with a couple of visitors joining a very strong turnout of Ards CC riders. As we get used to the new ways of working, hopefully we’ll see some more familiar faces from other clubs in the coming weeks.

Luke Joyce approaching the finish.

The strong head wind meant that the course record was safe, but once again there was just a handful of seconds separating the fastest riders. Luke Joyce (Bikehouse) recorded 14:55 to just nudge the win by one second from our own Peter McLean (still a little stiff from a road racing tumble at the weekend). Ian Inglis (Kinning) also dipped under the 15 minute/25mph barrier with 14:59, and John Rafferty was another 2 seconds back.

Peter McLean – hill climbing, road racing, time trialling – is there anything he can’t do?

Thanks as always to the time keepers and marshals. Next week we’re back to Millisle for another 10 mile time trial, and then it is the Champion of Champions on 9th August. Click here for the rest of the calendar and details on how to enter. See you there!

John Rafferty

There was a lot of traffic on the road tonight, and a couple of riders were delayed when cars got stuck behind slower riders. We’ll maybe trying starting in reverse order of personal bests next week to try and minimise the risk of this happening again.

The Jess supporters club was out in force.

Good to see Conor Hanna back in Ards CC colours again (metaphorically if not yet literally)..
