Stuart dominates Carrowreagh

Stuart made the 10-15% slopes look easy

Barry got dried out after Sunday’s spin to take 2nd

Just 6 riders lined up for the final club race of the season. Fortunately the rain held off and there was a strong tail wind up the daunting slopes of Carrowreagh Hill. We reckon the last club hill climb on this road was about 1999, but we used a longer course this evening so it is hard to make comparisons. But regardless of the course, Stuart Millar (Ards CC) made it look easy, finishing in a very impressive time of 4:36. That was over minute clear of Barry Mitchell (Ards CC) and Jonathan Taylor (North Down CC), who were split by just 3 seconds in the battle for second.

Jonathan Taylor powers to third

Name Club Time
1 Stuart Millar Ards CC 4:36
2 Barry Mitchell Ards CC 5:51
3 Jonathan Taylor North Down CC 5:54
4 Kevin Briggs Ards CC 6:08
5 Owen Bryne North Down CC 6:27
6 Andrew Jess Ards CC 7:01

Kevin Briggs dug deep

Owen Bryne looks like he’s enjoying it!

This result means Stuart wins the club hill climb trophy (calculated on a scratch basis over all club hill climbs apart from Bradshaw’s Brae). Thanks as always to the time keepers and pusher off.

Andrew Jess wisely opted for gears rather than fixed

That’s the end of our club calendar for 2025, but we’ll see you out on the club runs. And keep an eye out for details of the club dinner and our Christmas events in due course.

There was a curious bunch of spectators at the finish
