Great riding at the Tour of Strangford

One hundred and twenty five riders signed up for this year’s Tour of Strangford, and they were rewarded with dry and fairly calm conditions. About 70 riders opted for the 80 mile route, with the rest choosing the 50 miles.

Riders assembled in Londonderry Park this year

The 80 milers were keen to get going

Although the 50 milers started later, they had a shorter run to the food stop in Portaferry. There was a welcome spread as always :-). It was great to see 5 or 6 younger riders taking part this year – hopefully a promising sign for the future.

The front group of Ards riders look in good form in Strangford after averaging over 20mph on the tough first half of the circuit.

From the ferry the 80 milers could see the first group of 50 milers, already fed and watered, and starting the second leg back to Ards…

Great to see some of our ladies tackling the 80 mile route this year

The club was raising money for Bangor and North Down Samaritans this year – we’ll have more details about the total amount raised later.

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped to organise and run this great and very worthwhile event, including course designers, road markers, entry, sign-on, broom wagon, and refreshments. You helped make it a smooth and enjoyable day out.
