Chris McGlinchey at the start
Twenty one riders faced the time keeper tonight for the Magreechan Cup on the Millisle Ballyhalbert course. In spite of a strong headwind on the outward leg, visitor Chris McGlinchey (Spectra Wiggle p/b Vitus) took almost two minutes of Adam Skeet’s (Northern) course record with an excellent time of 34:23 for the 16.6 miles.
Second, and first Ards CC rider, was Peter McLean, who takes the Magreechan Cup. His time was also inside the old course record. Michael Boyd (unattached) rounded out the podium.
The next three were all Ards CC riders, and were separated by just 9 seconds – Conor Hanna taking fourth, from Andrew Hedley and Barry Mitchell.
I was great to see Bobby Magreechan down tonight to present the trophy to Peter McLean. Bobby presented the Cup to the club in 1986 for a time trial from Newtownards to Portaferry and back. The race was moved to the present course in 2018.
