Ards Cycling Club promotes their annual Town Centre races on Wednesday 19th June 2013.  Roads around the town centre one way system will be closed from 7pm to 9pm, with racing starting at 7pm sharp.  The race programme caters for all ages: novice race, junior races and senior races.  Sign on is in Conway Square from 6pm with the novice race starting at 7pm after the PSNI have closed the roads.  Sign on for the novice race will close at 6.45pm.

Parents / guardians of novice riders must sign a consent form. These children must be capable of riding 3 times around the one way system. All novice riders ages 6 to 14 will cover 3 laps of the one way traffic system ‘short course’ around the town hall; which turns down Meetinghouse Lane, not the Doctors Lane / Castle Place as used for the junior and senior races.  Children taking part in this event must wear a helmet and have a road worthy bike.  No parents will be allowed to ride with the children and that includes parents who may well be cyclists.  Cyclists appointed by Ards CC will accompany the novices.  The entry fee for the novice riders will be £1.

Other events include open races for: U12, U14 and U16; A3, A4 and Ladies; Over 50s (to be run at the same time as the A3 – A4 race); and A* to A2 riders.  All roads in the town centre circuit will be closed to traffic.  Please note, Over 50s only require a club competition licence to ride this event as it is a mid week interclub race. Entry fees are £3 for juniors and £10 for seniors.

Cars are requested not to park in front of the Town Hall (spaces to be left for officials for sign on, ambulance, competitors lining up and spectators).  Car parking is available adjacent to the course behind the town’s public toilets 100 metres after the finish line on Mill Street. Barriers will be placed in front of the cars parked in front of the Town Hall.  If your car is parked within the closed circuit you will not be able to leave the town centre until the roads reopen to traffic after 9pm.

The event is kindly supported by Chain Reaction Cycles and Ards Borough Council.  Ards Borough Council will accommodate riders and spectators by keeping the public toilet facilities on Mill Street open to 9.30pm.
