Joining Ards Cycling Club

Joining a club is a great way to get the most out of your cycling. Whether you are a seasoned racer or a complete beginner, there is nothing better than riding with like-minded cyclists to develop your skills and challenge yourself.

To find out more, read this page, check out our frequently asked questions, or come down to one of our club runs or one of our club races and talk to us.

Currently there are three club membership categories.  Detailed below are the membership categories and the 2015 annual club membership fees.

1)     Full Membership               £15

2)     Youth & Junior                    £5

3)     Supporter only                     £1

The following definition of ‘Supporter only’ membership was ratified at the 2012 AGM: “A member who does not ride a bicycle at club organised events (e.g. races, time-trials or club runs).”

If you join on or after 1 November, your initial membership runs till the end of December the following year (as per Cycling Ireland Technical Rules Jan 2014, G1.5).

Protocol for new riders on club runs:

Ards Cycling Club welcomes all new riders and the club runs are open to all to come along and try out.

After having been out with the club for up to two rides we strongly recommend new riders to then take out a Cycling Ireland licence and membership of the club if they wish to continue to join our club runs.

Current fees can be as low as £15 for the club and £33 for Cycling Ireland membership which then gives added insurance and third party protections; as well as a full year’s program of organised events in addition to up to three club events per week mid season.

Cycling Ireland Membership Licences

Full, Youth & Junior club members are required to take a Cycling Ireland licence prior to participating in club calendar events and regular club runs.

The key benefit of joining Cycling Ireland and having a Cycling Ireland licence is the insurance provided.  You will be covered for personal injury and third party damage / liability.  This cover also extends to training.  Please see the Cycling Ireland website FAQ page for more information.

The table below details the 2015 Cycling Ireland membership / licence categories and fees applicable to Ards Cycling Club members.
